I Know, It’s Only the Disney Channel…

…but I like it.

All right, maybe like is too strong a word.  Call it a strange fascination.  Brain candy, if you will.  A way to put the mind on cruise control for a while.  Over the last few days it has become something of a habit–just me and my daughter Lexie, curled up on the couch, watching a roster of bizarre yet mesmerizing shows:  That’s So Raven.  Phil of the Future.  Hannah Montana.  And, of course, the incomparable Suite Life of Zack and Cody.  Lately it’s the only television I have time to watch, and I’m really starting to dig it.

The whole situation is giving me flashbacks to Saved By the Bell.  Yeah, I watched it.  You probably watched it too, telling yourself the whole time that Tiffani-Amber Theissen was HOT and that was the only reason you tuned in.  But who among us didn’t cringe at Zack’s newest scam, or secretly chuckle at Screech’s latest faux pas?  And dude–Elizabeth Berkley ended up in Showgirls, about which nothing further need be said.

I don’t know–maybe it’s just nostalgia playing tricks.  I just never thought I’d see the day when I knew all of the songs from High School Musical.  Still, I guess it’s better than sitting through the Wiggles for the umpteenth time trying to guess where Jeff fell asleep again.  Parents out there, y’all understand.  Children’s entertainment always gets you in the end.

Still, a support group wouldn’t be bad.  Shall we start one here?

It’s amazing how your viewing habits change once your a parent. Even if it’s Disney, it sure beats watching hours and hours of Baby Einstein videos.

Ours loves Kim Possible, but recognizes all of the Disney music on XM. It’s almost scary. Subliminal messages for the impressionable ones. “Buy Disney, Buy Disney, Buy Disney . . . . ”

For the record, I never watched Saved by the Bell.

Besides – it’s all about the boo yah baby.

Okay, it’s sad, but I finally get all the references.
Never thought of myself as a “Disney Mom”, but I guess we’ve all got more than one persona lurking inside.
Hope y’all don’t catch yourselves humming “I’m your basic, average girl…”

Hmmm. . .don’t think I’ve ever hummed that tune, but now it’ll probably ring through my head all night long now that I’m thinking about it. 🙂 Now “Get Your Head in the Game”–THAT”S another story…

For some reason I am into “Smallville” these days. Does that count?

No, “Adult Themes” are an automatic disqualifier.

I dunno–“Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior” had some pretty cool wire-fu going for it, not to mention some sophisticated themes. I particularly liked the discussion of Buddhist philosophy during the shop-til-you-drop makeover scene. It would have done the Matrix proud…

Good to know I wasn’t the only one who had to sit through Wendy Wu. I couldn’t help but think of Big Trouble in Little China meets the Matrix.
